We work in partnership with Rice Lane City Farm to provide wellbeing visits for our learners and staff. Trips to the farm are always a grand day out and can involve a range of activities – animal care, cooking lessons, construction sessions, planting activities and hiking trips.
Regardless of the season, the farm has the facilities to deliver sessions both indoors and out; meaning all year-round we are able to enjoy the benefits of its amazing atmosphere. Our learners have built planters, fixed fences, cooked meals, fed donkeys and even competed in welly throwing competitions!
There’s so much to do here and we’d love to invite you along. Don’t worry about travel arrangements, we will always offer our free minibus service to collect you from your course venue or local JobCentre.

I’m lost for words. Our visit to the farm has helped me to come out of my shell. I feel so much more comfortable in my group.

Hidden between County Road and Walton Vale, Rice Lane City Farm spreads across a whopping 24 acres and boasts animals including the rare breeds Ryeland sheep and Berkshire pigs.
Established over 40 years ago by the local community on the site of the old Walton Cemetery, the grounds retain the Grade II listed chapel – now joined by an excellent café, adventure playground and a wide range of farmyard animals.
The farm is a pillar of the community and gives volunteers – including Crosby Training staff and learners – the chance to work on projects they wouldn’t usually have access to. Crosby Training’s Irene Carol said: “It gives our learners a unique opportunity to get to know each other in a fun and rewarding environment. Activities vary depending on the time of year but there’s always a job to be getting on with!”
Of course, our partnership with Rice Lane City Farm is also an integral part of our Horticulture focused Landscape & Pathways Course – you can read more about that here.
